2022-2023 Downtown Elementary Teacher of the Year
Ms. Tanisha Johnson 

Tanisha Johnson is a 5th Grade General Education Teacher at Downtown Elementary Magnet Academy with Muscogee County School District.

 

Ms. Johnson graduated from Manchester High School. After high school, she pursed a career in education. She has had a desire to be a teacher since she was a 2nd grader! She attended college at Columbus State University and earned her Bachelor of Science and Master in Education Degree in Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Elementary Education Curriculum and Instruction at Liberty University.

 

Ms. Johnson is also a mom to her three precious little ones,  Avari, August, and Ace. In her personal time she enjoys thrifting, vacationing, and spending time with her family which includes her parents, sister, and children.

 

Ms. Johnson is the 5th grade level lead teacher. She teaches all subjects to include Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. She also enjoys teaching the Engineering curriculum

and integrating STEAM instruction across the curriculum. She has high expectations for her students and is known to motivate and encourage her students to problem solve and maximize and excel beyond their potential. Her favorite class mottos are “Problem solve, Engineers!” and “Challenge yourselves, Challengers!”.

 

Not only does Ms. Johnson hold a 5th grade teaching position, she also is a Teacher Leader on the Personalized Learning Team and is the sponsor for several of our teams and clubs at DEMA whether it is during school hours or after hours. She is a sponsor for our Drama Club, Cheerleading Team, Math Team, and helps with DEMA Gems and Gents. She also helps with programs and events at our school that support our faculty and students. She is very creative and always full of energy and personality.

 

Ms. Johnson’s teaching philosophy is “YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS!” She encourages students to always accept challenges and believe in themselves even when things are tough! She truly believes that all students can achieve anything if they have a positive mindset and put forth effort because through challenges, we unlock growth; through growth, we unlock success!
